Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles Win Austrian State Prize for Smart Packaging

Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles have been recognized for their home-compostable coffee capsules at the Austrian State Prize for Smart Packaging 2024 with the award "Exemplary Packaging Solution." This award honors innovative, holistic packaging solutions that combine the highest ecological sustainability, user-friendliness, and design quality. A total of 42 entries were submitted, from which the coffee capsules stood out. 

The coffee capsules consist of a capsule body developed by Greiner, while the sealing foil, known as EcoPressoLid, comes from Constantia Flexibles. The capsules can be completely disposed of in home compost and break down there within a few weeks without leaving harmful residues. This environmentally friendly solution significantly reduces packaging waste and provides coffee lovers with a sustainable way to enjoy their coffee.

Moreover, the coffee capsules impress with their excellent barrier properties, ensuring outstanding aroma protection, and they are compatible with common coffee capsule machines. In this way, they charmingly combine sustainability and enjoyment, turning every cup of coffee into a responsible experience for environmentally conscious consumers. 

The Federal Ministry of Labor and Economy, together with the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation, and Technology, recognizes the environmentally friendly characteristics as well as the everyday practicality of the capsules. It emphasizes their role as a sustainable innovation that meets the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging in the coffee capsule segment. With this solution, Greiner Packaging and Constantia Flexibles position themselves as pioneers in the packaging industry and set a strong signal for the competitiveness and innovative strength of the Austrian economy.
